GOVERNMENT VOCATIONAL HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL KOONATHARA The school is located at Koonathara, 5 Km from Shoranur railway station, facing the Pattambi-Palakkad highway. Started as a lower primary school in a remote area with the help of local people in 19--, the school was later upgraded as an upper primary school, then as a high school and later in 199- as a vocational higher secondary school. This is the only govt. school in Vaniyamkulam panchayat.  The school has now 4 LP divisions, 3 UP divisions, 11 HS divisions and 2 VHS divisions. The medium of instruction up to the high school level is Malayalam. The school offers Sanskrit as a subject in UP and HS classes. At the higher secondary level, Accountancy and Auditing is the only stream offered. The staff includes the Principal, 34 teachers, and 5 non teaching staff. Nearly 850 students are studying in the school this year. Bank Road safety Club The teachers take special interest in the welfare of the students. Special coaching is given for the students of the tenth standard on all days in the morning and evening. Extra curricular activities are encouraged. Special training for games like Chess, Kho-kho, Football, Volleyball and sports items like swimming, sprint, etc are given to the selected students. The school has an excellent Parent Teachers Association. Many developmental activities are undertaken by the PTA. A drinking water supply scheme using MP fund came into existence this year.
